When I made this book, I was rereading Arnold Lobel. I wanted a more classical-looking book, all sweetness and tenderness.
This book talks about appearances. It’s an allusion to the tales of princes and princesses which make all children dream. It’s not the crown which makes a princess.
It’s also a book about children’s lies, which have nothing to do with adults’ lies.
Why tomatoes? Because in French we also call them "love’s apples". Anyway, it’s more fun to imagine Prince Charming biting into a tomato.
The little flies surrounding the witch on page 17 are there because of the smell!
On page 19, the witch’s hat disappearing on the horizon reminds one of a shark’s fin.
But what will happen between the witch and the little ogre? Who knows… it’s another story!
